Seeraga samba also known as Jeera Samba Rice, is organically grown aromatic rice. It is long duration rice traditionally grown in South India. The rice is known for its rich aroma and flickering taste which is also the unbeaten choice for biryani. The rice derives its name because of its small white ovular fine grains which resemble seeds of Seeragam /Jeera /Cumin and cultivate the rice in Samba season (August to January). It takes a long time to grow compared to other rice which also becomes a reason for the rice being costly.
Indigenous rice varieties are gaining popularity among the newer generation. Any local variety of rice is said to be rich in vitamin B complex and has a lower glycemic index.
