Black rice is a range of rice types of the species Oryza sativa, some of which are glutinous rice. Black rice (karuppu kavuni) or the forbidden rice (Chinese) or the emperor’s rice is a rare and very old variety of rice that has been growing in India for centuries. It is mainly grown in the Northeast region (called as Chak Hao) and the southern parts (called as Kavuni in Tamil) of India. Also known as youthful rice because when you eat this rice your aging of face stops i.e. it reduce in wrinkles.
Black rice is high in antioxidants, including anthocyanin, which may support heart and brain health, and vitamin E, which supports eye and skin health and the immune system. Its antioxidants are both fat- and water-soluble, allowing them to potentially benefit multiple parts of the body. Black rice contains more fiber, iron, and protein than regular brown rice, and especially white rice.
